While some have very dry skin, especially as they get older and near the point of moving into an assisted living facility, other people can have the opposite problem with their skin. But while dry skin can be treated with lots of moisture, dealing with oily skin often isn’t as easy of a fix.

Consider Your Diet

The foods that you eat can have a much bigger impact on your overall health than just at your waistline. What you eat can impact your hormones and your skin and hair, which can cause you to have more oily skin than others.

If you’re already experiencing oily skin, you may want to consider what you’re eating and how changing up your diet could benefit you. Ideally, you should look to eat foods with a low glycemic index if you’re wanting help controlling the oil production of your skin. Foods that have a low glycemic index include things like vegetables, fruits, legumes, and whole grains. So if these kinds of foods don’t make up the bulk of your diet right now, you might want to start bringing them in more and cutting other foods out.

Don’t Be Too Aggressive With Skincare Products

When your skin seems to always have too much oily being produced, it may make sense to you to try to wash your face as much as possible and with the most drying of products to clear this oil away. But sadly, doing this could just make your problems worse.

If your skin feels like it’s not getting the moisture that it needs, like it will if you wash your face too often or use aggressive skincare products, you could wind up drying out your skin and causing it to want to create more oil. To avoid this, make sure you’re washing your face just twice a day and using products that add moisture.

One product that is great for people who have extremely oily skin is clay. Many masks are made with clay now, which can be a great way to help absorb some of the oil and leave your face feeling both refreshed and less shiny after use. So if you don’t already have a clay mask that you use once or twice a week in addition to your other skincare routines, this may be something to look into getting.
