The word retirement means a life of leisure and peace. It is the time which we actually get to do things we like after years of hard work.

You are older at the age of retirement. So, with advanced age, health problems can pop up. You can certainly reduce or prevent the health complications/ problems occurring with age by following certain health tips.

Following are some of the health tips that can help one to avoid or reduce problems associated with ageing.

1.Exercise

Exercise is the first and the foremost important thing which you should never forget post retirement too. The physical activity decreases, especially in men post retirement. You can select the type of exercise that suits your body the most. One can go for jogging, brisk walking, gyming, swimming etc. Also, practice yoga and meditation to stay calm.

2.Vigilance

As we age, the bodily functions can be compromised. In order to prevent any health complications one should undergo regular health checkups. Managing and controlling the blood sugar levels, cholesterol levels, blood pressure and body weight is extremely important as we age. It is recommended to go for a full body check once a year after retirement.

3.Eat healthy

Your eating habits will decide how long and what quality of life will you live. Eating foods high in fiber is necessary as the problem of constipation is aggravated as we age. Drink lots of water and maintain your hydration levels. Avoid processed, junk food and confectionaries. Include maximum fresh fruits, vegetables and legumes in your diet. You can consult dietician for a proper diet plan.

4.Quit addictions

The addictions such as smoking, alcohol a consumption can damage the vital organs such heart, liver etc. So refrain from them.

5.Work part time

If you have been a workaholic throughout your life, at the start you may find it difficult to sit entire day at home, confined to walls. In that case you can work part time. This not only helps to keep one busy, but it also helps the person to stay active and rejuvenated.

6.Engage in hobbies

In case, you were not able to pursue your hobby before, due to work commitments, you can take out time for it.

7.Volunteer

You can be a part of NGO, which you always wanted to support during your working days.

8.Get adequate sleep

Get adequate sleep for eight hours.

All the above mentioned health tips, will help you to stay active and fit throughout your life.
