Touchscreen displays, contrary to popular belief, are not a new or even recent invention; in fact, they have been around for many years but have only recently been integrated into mainstream use and consciousness.
Different Types of Touchscreen Displays
Here are five types of touchscreen technology that are currently making a lot of noise in the tech industry. Most of the industrial Screen Manufacturers are producing all these types of touch screens.
Touchscreen Resistive
For several reasons, resistive touchscreens are the most commonly used touchscreens. They are inexpensive to produce, extremely durable and possess a high degree of versatility. They can be used with almost any instrument, such as your fingers, stylus pens, the edge of a credit card, and so on.
You can even use them while wearing gloves. Resistive touchscreens are made up of a carefully crafted multi-layered infrastructure glass and a protective film screen, both of which are shielded by a metallic layer, as well as a tiny gap that allows for precise point of contact recognition. When you press your finger against the outer layer, the two layers come together at the exact point of contact.
Touchscreen Capacitive
Capacitive touchscreens are less durable and versatile than resistive touchscreens, and they can only be used in a few industries. They are generally more prone to environmental damage and cannot be used with different objects.
They can only respond to the touch of a bare finger because they rely on conductivity produced by the human body. They are, however, ideal for indoor office or retail use. Capacitive touchscreens are classified into two types and both are available at industrial screen manufacturers.
●Surface capacitive touchscreens have an extra layer of protection that is scratch, drop, dirt, and liquid resistant. Because of their quick response and dragging capabilities, these are ideal for the retail or restaurant industries.
●Projected capacitive touchscreens are also ideal for indoor use because they have an external layer of tempered glass that protects them from cracks, defacement, and rough handling.
Touchscreen with Surface Acoustic Wave
Because they do not rely on conductivity to function, Surface Acoustic Wave (SAW) touchscreens can be used with almost any instrument. Ultrasonic waves are used by this perimeter-based technology to detect points of contact. They have exceptional visual capabilities due to the absence of a filmy protective layer. Unfortunately, this makes SAW touchscreens more vulnerable to damage from outside sources.
Infrared and Optical Touchscreens
Infrared and optical touchscreens are also based on the perimeter. Infrared light beams are used in infrared touchscreens. LED sensors on one side of the screen interact with light sensors on the other until they are interrupted by touch at a point of contact. Optical touchscreens, like infrared touchscreens, use infrared lights, but their setup is slightly different. Within the screen’s structure, two cameras detect touch and calculate the precise point of contact.
